The Queen of Country Music is 87! Country icon, Loretta Lynn celebrated her birthday on April 15 with more love than she knew what to do with! Country stars all across the board wished The Queen a very happy birthday just in the fashion she deserved. While all of the tributes were sweet, one country legend’s might have been our favorite…
Celebrating The Queen
Although Lynn celebrated her big day with a special tribute concert on April 1st, the country music world couldn’t forget about her real birthday. In a series of short clips, stars across the genre wished the Queen the warmest of “happy birthdays.” The list included Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, George Strait, John Carter Cash, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, Restless Heart, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, and many more.
But of course, one of Lynn’s closest friends gave her a special birthday serenade. Music legend, Willie Nelson, sang a little snippet of “Happy Birthday” for his dear friend. Standing outside, Nelson put on a raspy cover of the tune, showcasing his raw talent. Nelson popped a smile while singing for Lynn, ending with a “love you!”
A Legendary Friendship
Lynn and Nelson have been friends for decades. As both legends influenced the country music world in their own unique ways, they have maintained a strong friendship throughout the years. In 2016, after high-anticipation from fans, the pair finally released a duet together. Off of Lynn’s Full Circle album, the duo harmonized on the track, “Lay Me Down.”
The sweet ballad alongside the simple music video painted the most beautiful message.
“When they lay me down someday, my soul will rise, then fly away. This old world will turn around. I’ll be at peace when they lay me down.”
