Trisha Yearwood Rings In The Season With Magical “My Favorite Things” Performance

The Wonderful World of Disney: Holiday Spectacular aired Monday night (December 1), officially marking this year’s first television special of the Christmas season.
Hosted by Derek Hough, the two-hour Wonderful World of Disney: Holiday Spectacular featured a star-studded lineup of performers including Gwen Stefani, Iam Tongi, Aloe Blacc, and Trisha Yearwood, among others. The show’s host also had performer duties with some show-stopping dance routines fitting for the event.
A highlight of the night was Trisha Yearwood’s performance of “My Favorite Things.” The Rodgers and Hammerstein hit from their The Sound of Music Broadway production was popularized by Julie Andrews in 1961. Andrews performed it for the Garry Moore Christmas special that year, four years before she starred in the television adaptation of The Sound of Music.

“My Favorite Things” has been covered by numerous artists since, including The Supremes, Kenny Rogers, Lorrie Morgan, Chicago, and Christina Aguilera. Trisha Yearwood is the latest artist to add the tune to her vast repertoire.

“My Favorite Things” is one of twelve tracks on Trisha Yearwood‘s new album, Christmastime. The project features many of the country star’s holiday favorites, including “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” from The Grinch movie, “Christmastime Is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas, Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas,” and “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
Trisha brought her rendition of “My Favorite Things” to Monday’s Disney Christmas special. Though not a Christmas movie, The Sound of Music has become associated with the holiday due to its annual television broadcast every December, making the song an ideal fit for the celebration.
