On March 20, country music lost one of its icons…Kenny Rogers. He was 81 years old.

Rogers’ family announced his passing on social media. “The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night at 10:25 p.m. at the age of 81,” read the family’s statement. “Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.”

The Rogers family later posted an additional statement to thank fans for all of their support upon learning of Kenny’s passing.

The Rogers family would like to thank you for the generous outpouring of love and support coming in from all over the world these past two days,” read the family’s statement. “It’s a beautiful reminder of the positive impact Kenny has had and will continue to have on so many. The music lives on!

The family also announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kenny’s public memorial will be held at a later date. In the meantime, his family will gather during a small, private service to say their goodbyes.

Until he can be recognized during a public memorial, Kenny’s fans have been reaching out to ask if they could make any charitable donations in his honor. After getting so many questions about where donations could be made, his family/team named a fund fans could contribute to.

In a post on Kenny’s social media pages, his family/team said fans could make donations in his honor to the MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund. The MusiCares fund was established years ago by the Recording Academy, and provides aid to musicians and music industry personnel during times of need.

With the COVID-19 pandemic leaving many musicians out of work, MusiCares established a specific fund to help those affected by the current situation.

Kenny’s family/team said they felt fans would be right to donate to the MusiCares fund in his name, since he “always wholeheartedly supported musicians, crew members & music personnel.”
