Nickelback has joined the myriad of bands that are covering songs in honor of the late Charlie Daniels, who passed away July 6, 2020, at the age of 83.

The Canadian rock band released a cover of Daniels’ most popular song, “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” — featuring Dave Martone and released it on August 14, 2020.

Before the band released their version of the song, they mysteriously posted about a release on August 14, 2020, but didn’t give much detail other than that.

Finally, on August 13, 2020, they officially announced what they’d been working on.

Their cover of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” features the typical distorted, down-tuned, electric guitars, with frontman Chad Kroeger’s gravelly voice leading the way.

The band gave some of the backstory of the cover on their Facebook page,

“A few years ago we recorded a take of ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia’ during a studio session with our good friend Dave Martone. It was a fun song to tackle and brought back so many good memories for us all. When Charlie Daniels passed last month, the world lost a music icon. We hope our version will bring half as much joy as his did for us and so many others.”

Nickelback changed a couple of the lyrics to match their style and even released an animated video on YouTube.
