The world lost one of its most iconic actors on October 31. On that day, Sean Connery passed away in his sleep at the age of 90.

Connery was most well-known for being the first actor to portray James Bond in a movie. He went on to play Bond in a total of seven films.

In addition to starring in the Bond movies, Connery also appeared in major titles such as Murder on the Orient Express, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and The Untouchables.

The latter film was released in 1987, and also starred Robert De Niro, Andy García, and Kevin Costner. Costner portrayed the lead character, Eliott Ness, and it was considered to be one of his biggest roles up to that point.

Connery played Jimmy Malone in the film. He went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.

After working together on such a notable film, Costner and Connery were bonded for life. Costner had the upmost respect for the veteran actor, which is why he “was deeply saddened” to learn of his death on October 31.

Costner penned a touching tribute to his former costar on social media, writing:

Sean was a crafted actor who was enormously proud of his body of work, particularly his work on stage. And although he was a very no-nonsense person, he was incredibly inclusive with me professionally and personally.”

Costner went on to say that Connery “was the biggest star” he had ever had the pleasure of working with. “…I will be forever grateful to be linked with him on film,” he said.
